All About Plants
Introduction
We see plants everywhere including what we eat. By knowing the life cycle of a plant, what plants need to grow, and the parts of plants, we can understand plants better. Go through this Subject Sampler and you will learn the process a plant undegoes in order to grow. Have fun exploring the websites and the activities that are provided.
Activities
Activity 1 The Tiny Seed
Watch the Story Video of the Eric Carl Book The Tiny Seed. After the video, draw a picture of what might happen to a new seed after it sails far away in the wind. Write a new story of your new seed.
Activity 2 Brain Pop Jr. - Plants
Log into Brain POP Jr. with District log in and watch Brain POP Video on the Plant Life Cycle. While watching the Video, in your science journal, write down the questions that Annie asks and jots down in her Notebook ,as she explains to Moby how a seed grows. Make sure that you answer the questions. Bring your science journals to class to go over the questions you wrote down and review your answers.
Activity 3 Seed Growth
For a seed to grow into a healthy plant it needs plenty of water and light. Click on a button to see what happens if we change the amounts of water and light we give to a seed. Make a three tab foldable of what happen in each video.
Activity 4 My Plant Doodle
Go to this website to Draw a plant that you either have at home or in class. Label the parts of the plant you draw.
Activity 5 Life Cycle of a Plant
Learn about the life cycle of a plant by sorting the parts of a flower, discovering what each part does and how in contributes to the life cycle of a living thing. Experiment with the different parts of a flower, sort them into the correct categories, label them and learn useful information.
Examines how plants need water and light to grow and how seeds grow into flowering plants. Complete the parts of plants matching activity and take the quiz.
Conclusion
I hope that you have enjoyed the activities and have learned some new information about plants and or the Life Cycle of a Plant as it grows from a seed. We will continue to learn more about plants and be able to use the information you learned in our classroom Science Center set up as a Flower Shop.
